Did they know it was coming?

FSG

Who has ever seen FSG swing into action as quickly as our [absent] chairman Tom Werner last night? Harvey Weinstein took longer to respond to the recent allegations made against him, so errr yeah, well played Thomas!

If only FSG could respond to their critics as quickly as good old Tom did last night. The KOPTALK kettle hadn’t even clicked off after we’d published our FSG reject £1.5billion offer from Amanda Staveley for Liverpool piece and The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce had sprung into action like Columbo to tell us it was a load of old guff.

Both The Telegraph and The Times, publications that many fans would deem credible, had recently made claims that Staveley had offered FSG “at least £1.2bn” for the club and/or had made attempts to buy it.

These claims had been completely overlooked by the local media, or so we’re led to believe, until now. If we’re wrong, please correct us because a lot of supporters are convinced that they deliberately ignored the claims that Staveley had bid (NOT ‘was going to bid’ or had been ‘linked with a bid’ but ‘HAD bid’ as claimed by the national media). With the national media reporting bids having been made in excess of a billion pounds for the club from Staveley, surely they should have been flagged up for fans who don’t read such publications? We’re still confused. Maybe they just thought it was a load of nonsense that wasn’t worth touching. Who knows?

But there could be no suggestions of such last night though as they were able to touch base with Werner very, very quickly. Some may suggest, too quickly.

Amanda StaveleyAnfield insiders have even gone as far as to suggest that FSG knew that The National, a publication based in the UAE where many of Amanda’s £billions, friends and closest contacts are based, was going to drop the report stating that a deal worth £1.5bn had been rejected by our American friends.

While Staveley (pictured right) remains in talks with Newcastle United regarding a possible purchase having failed once again to snap up her beloved Liverpool FC, there have been suggestions that The National’s report was her last throw of the dice to apply pressure on FSG to reconsider, knowing that the Liverpool fanbase would be in uproar at the suggestion of such greed.

Werner said he and his FSG partners had “better things to do than batting down rumours about negotiations with Ms Staveley” and insisted that “there’s no truth to them.”

The denials came too quick for us. We think they knew it was coming.

Liverpool fans who were tucked up in their beds and didn’t stay up all night sending out ‘FSG OUT’ tweets to anyone connected to FSG and the club i.e. ‘Clean Sheets’ and our social media King, Peter Moore, will have woken up to the depressing news that a Liverpool fan with as much as £30bn behind her, was again unable to seize control of the club from American investors.

FSG desperately need some damage limitation. A bus and even a redeveloped stand won’t cut it this time. If Werner can pop up on demand as he did last night, it’s time he and Big John stepped up and tried to calm the fan base. They’ve issued statements before to apologise and to reassure. No apologies are needed this time. The fans just want to know what their intentions actually are. Do you really have “the resources to compete with anybody in football” Tom as you once said? Just be honest with us old bean.

We’re as sick as the FSG OUT stuff as those who are stupid enough to say FSG IN. We would rather we were all on the same page.

What’s your plans for our fine club? The occasional statement or update would go a long way to shutting a lot of people up. We only hear from you when it suits you which results in fans speculating and trying to work out what farce is going to happen next.

If you can’t compete and are happy to just plod along, please for the love of God do the honourable thing and hand over the club to someone who cares. Pick up the phone, take your billion or so profit and leave with respect, just like David Moores did. He knew he couldn’t compete and he tried to do the right thing for the club and the fans, not himself. Can you say the same?

We can only speak for ourselves when we say that we don’t need to see £100m+ signings year in, year out. We wouldn’t blame you if you cashed in on want-away players like Philippe Coutinho when they have a chance to fulfil their own dreams. We don’t even demand silverware, we just want to think we actually have a chance of winning some, and we’d be happy to see you walk away with a hefty profit. All we want is someone that actually looks like they give a ****. Is that really too much to ask?

You may have employed people to represent you at Anfield but they’re clearly not connecting well with the fans. Anyone that actually represents FSG is hidden away until you need to deploy them. Yes we have a few faces that apparently represent the club but where’s your voice? Where’s your mugs? Where is your leadership?

**** knows why we’re asking, like you give a toss what we think

Anyway, as depressing as all this is to those of you who have no faith in FSG, at least one Liverpool legend indirectly chimed in last night in what appeared to be a show of support and understanding (see below).

And Amanda, thank you.
