Tottenham register interest in Daniel Sturridge

Tottenham Hotspur have registered their interest in Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

It is claimed that Spurs recently made an informal enquiry about the 27-year-old’s availability following whispers that Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp would be willing to move him out of Anfield if a sizeable transfer fee came in.

The hitman is currently enduring a barren run having not scored in the Premier League for more than 600 minutes. If selected to face West Brom today, he will, of course, be hoping to end that but he’s far from guaranteed a start.

Commenting on the player’s form ahead of today’s match, Klopp said: “Every player struggles. Little problem here, little problem there. Daniel is an outstanding player. There is no doubt about this. We had a game against Manchester United and, yes, it was not easy for him.

“We didn’t play well, he didn’t play with 100 per cent confidence – we can all see this. He is doing what all players have to do in the moments like this when it doesn’t quite go for you, is keeping working.”

Arsenal are long-term admirers of Sturridge but it is Tottenham who appear to have stepped up first with an enquiry.

Publicly the player isn’t for sale but there are suggestions from within the club that if a decent bid comes in, then the manager would accept it, subject to finding a replacement.

Liverpool’s recruitment team are looking at strikers but their search for possible new additions was well underway before Spurs made an approach.
