Origi’s father says a loan move was never an option

Divock Origi

Divock Origi’s father has been speaking about the situation his son is currently facing having failed to secure a move away from Anfield during the summer.

The 23-year-old Liverpool striker, who spent last season on loan at Wolfsburg, failed to negotiate his exit despite approaches from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Valencia. Turkish outfit Besiktas, who recently secured a two-year loan deal for Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius, also failed to follow up on their interest.

Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp was interested in loaning the player out again this term when it became clear that he wouldn’t be sold but that never going to happen according to the player’s father.

Mike Okoth (Michael Okoth Origi) said: “Divock is still a Liverpool player and is still on contract until the end of the 2019-2020 season.

“The coach is already happy with what he’s seeing with Divock in training and it’s up to the young man to now fight for a place in the team.

“Dortmund and Valencia showed good interest but they couldn’t match what Liverpool wanted and there was no way Divock was going out on loan again so he will have to fight for his place.

“In football, you shouldn’t live in past glory but always fight to be the best and to be relevant on the day.

“He has seen the difference between Liverpool and other clubs and will obviously know that he has to fight hard to remain in Liverpool which is a bigger club.

“Three months in football is a long time … let’s wait and see what will happen between now and the winter window.”
