Liverpool willing to break club transfer record

Virgil Van Dijk

Liverpool Football Club is willing to break its transfer record to land Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk, claim well-placed sources [that have been briefed by Anfield officials].

It is claimed that the Reds are willing to shell out a fee in the region of £50million for the 25-year-old Dutch centre-back which would exceed the £35million paid out for Andy Carroll when we were famously mugged off back in January 2011.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City are all interested in the defender and even Everton have registered their interest which made us chuckle a little.

Virgil van Dijk’s representatives have made it clear that the player is looking for a move to a Champions League club which could, of course, prove a problem for Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp due to the fact that a number of rival clubs are desperately competing with his side for a qualifying position.

Burnley defender Michael Keane (24) is another option for Klopp who is desperate to strengthen his defence.
