How Liverpool’s 2015-16 campaign would turn out was anyone’s guess last summer. Depending on who you asked, anything but a spot back in Europe would be deemed a failure. Others — such as the supporters that flew a ‘Rodgers Out’ banner behind a plane over Anfield last May — would consider having anyone on the touchline besides Brendan Rodgers a victory.
If you were in the latter camp, Liverpool made your wish come true in early October by firing Rodgers and hiring Jurgen Klopp. And while it’d take a string of great results, Liverpool aren’t completely out of the running for a Europe spot just yet.
Still, there is a wave of optimism on what Klopp can do when he brings in some players that suit his own personal tastes more. Even then, next season will no doubt be as difficult to predict for bettors and casual supporters alike as this one was (just because the footy season is nearing its finale doesn’t mean the fun has to end, as many sportsbooks offer betting odds on regards which hot transfer targets are going to end up where.)

Below are four of Liverpool’s most likely transfer targets to bring to Merseyside this summer.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Barca keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen is publicly annoyed with having to share time in the net with Caludio Bravo, and he has northern England in his sights. Even after helping FCB to the treble last season by playing in the Copa Del Rey and UEFA Champions League Finals, the 23-year-old is looking to move to a club where he’ll be the consistent number one starter and not being rotated like he is now.

The two clubs targeting the sweeper keeper that keep appearing in the rumour mill are that of Liverpool and Man City, though most speculate that the latter would be Stegen’s first choice. According to footy rumor site Squawka, the German international would come with a price tag of over £30 million.
Piotr Zielinski
Currently on loan from Udinese, Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski has made over 50 appearances with fellow Serie A side Empoli and has been linked to a Liverpool move to help bolster their back line. Source? Zielinski himself, who recently told Polish outlet futbolfejs that “Some people may think it’s only rumours but I know something more about it.”
The Pole has stated that he would look forward to playing with Philippe Coutinho, and that he intends to play his absolute best with Empoli for the remainder of this season and with Poland at this summer’s Euro 2016 in order to set himself for a transfer to a club like Liverpool.
Lucas Alario
Word on the street is that Liverpool are in heavy discussions with River Plate to bring 23-year old striker Lucas Alario to Anfield. The Argentinean has only been with the famed club for less than a year, but has already netted 12 goals and five assists in 24 appearances while showing great football IQ, speed, and range.
However, it’s not that straightforward, as the Buenos Aires club only owns 30% of the player, with the rest of him being owned by an investment group at his previous club, Colon de Santa Fe. River would like to purchase Alario in full before selling, but the rumors about Liverpool’s interest are causing the investment group to try and negotiate a higher price. If the deal does go through, many suspect it will be completed for around £9.5 million.
Mario Gotze
Considering he managed in the league less than a year ago, it’s no surprise that Jurgen Klopp is going after some Bundesliga players he became familiar with during his tenure at Borussia Dortmund. Schalke defender Joel Matip has already inked an official deal to join Liverpool in July, and rumours have been swirling heavily about Mario Gotze donning the red strip of Liverpool next season as well.

The Bayern Munich forward has one-year left on his contract, and although the 23-year old has struggled to both stay healthy and find a regular place on Bayern’s first team, many think re- joining up with old boss Klopp from his BvB days would be the spark both he and Liverpool need.
