Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has denied reports that his club has registered an interest in Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge but hasn’t ruled out a future move for him, should he become available.
“No, it’s not [true]. But that’s how the media works, there are always lots of headlines and pieces like that with players and other clubs and it goes on. He is a fine player, I like him very much, so who knows in football, it is an uncertain business where you get a lot of surprises.”
Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has suggested he will not be a doubt for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Southampton after limping off during England’s 2-2 draw with Spain last night. The 28-year-old told journalists in the mixed zone after the match that it was only a knock and he should be ok. However, Liverpool’s medical team will want to assess him fully today to see what’s what.

Reports yesterday claimed that Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is ready to quit Anfield and could possibly even quit the club as soon as January. We reported on our members’ website that even if the denials followed, that we shouldn’t dismiss the claims that the player was now considering moving elsewhere. Overnight, sources close to the club were told that Sturridge wouldn’t be going anywhere during the January transfer window. The club will, of course, maintain that he’s not for sale to maintain his valuation and would want to hold on to him until the summer at the very least anyway. We expect the player will state he knows nothing about the claims being made but we won’t believe him. One thing is for sure, if he is to leave, it will only be when the manager says so.
