Liverpool make approach for Real Madrid striker – REPORTS

Karim Benzema

There are fresh reports originating from Spain today that claim Liverpool have made an approach to Real Madrid about the availability of striker Karim Benzema.

Now 30, few would take reports seriously that Reds boss Jürgen Klopp would target the France international who, at this stage of his career, would be looking for one final lucrative contract before hanging up his boots if he was to leave the Bernabéu in the summer. Never say never but it sounds a bit suspect.

Benzema played one of his best games of the season at the weekend as Real Madrid beat Girona 6-3 and although he didn’t put the ball in the back of the net, he was involved in 3 of their goals.

Despite being linked on-and-off with Liverpool for what seems like an eternity, we just can’t see these specific claims about our approach as being genuine.

As we flagged up last week, Liverpool are currently being linked with a number of Real Madrid players which may make some fans feel a little suspicious because of their interest in Mohamed Salah. Those players include goalkeeper Keylor Navas who pulled off 3 vital saves against Girona and winger Lucas Vázquez who put in a great shift. The 26-year-old put in a fine display and scored one of Real’s goals. He also had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside. Central midfielder Dani Ceballos is another.

Navas is an outsider to join the Reds in the summer but Vázquez is receiving a lot of attention from Anfield. However, at the current time, there has been no approach and no enquiry.

On Friday, Vázquez received confirmation from Spain head coach Julen Lopetegui that he had been selected for international duty for their upcoming friendlies which comes following calls that he should be included in Spain’s World Cup squad.

Commenting on his call-up, Vázquez said: “I’m very happy to receive Lopetegui’s call, now I want to enjoy being part of the team.

“There are different phases over the course of the season. I had fewer minutes at the beginning of the year, but now I feel better and I am getting more confident.

“Things are going very well, I’m feeling great on a personal level and I’m trying to improve.

“Going to the World Cup is a personal goal and the way to get there is by working hard.

“I have to give my absolute best for Real Madrid and keep trying to get things right.”
