Leeds and Sunderland want Liverpool striker

Ben Woodburn

Leeds United and Sunderland have both made enquiries about the availability of Liverpool’s impressive rookie striker Ben Woodburn.

The 18-year-old sensation could leave Anfield on loan during the January transfer window to help gain valuable first team experience but Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp will only sanction a deal if the youngster is considered a regular starter and not just cover.

Fallen giants Leeds United currently sit 7th in the Championship and desperately want to secure a playoff position in the hope of returning to the top flight of English football where they belong while Sunderland are caught up in a relegation battle and are currently sitting 4th from bottom.

Black Cats boss Chris Coleman handed Woodburn his international debut with Wales earlier this year but although a link-up with him may be ideal, some would argue that a scrap at the bottom of the division for a developing youngster isn’t ideal circumstances.

Well placed sources report that other clubs are interested in the Wales international including a couple of so-called smaller Premier League clubs.

No decision has been made as yet as to whether or not Woodburn will be loaned out. One thing is for sure, he definitely won’t be going anywhere on a permanent basis.

  • Leeds United have also enquired about taking Danny Ings on loan.
