Danny Ings tribunal tomorrow

Danny Ings

Liverpool will soon discover how much they will have to pay Burnley for Danny Ings.

A tribunal will sit in Manchester on Tuesday to determine how much compensation must be paid and although a decision may not be made tomorrow, the Reds are hoping that the matter will be concluded this week.

The player, who is currently out with a cruciate ligament injury, will attend the hearing along with Liverpool officials who are hoping they won’t have to pay much more than their original £6million valuation. Burnley are hoping to be awarded closer to £10million and will cite Tottenham’s interest in the player last summer as a reason that they have potentially lost out.

Although the player’s contract with Burnley had expired, as he was under 24, his former club are entitled to compensation for his development.

Burnley chief executive Dave Baldwin commented recently: “The reason it is different to the ordinary is this tribunal claim will be the biggest in history.

“The key to this was that we bring the claim against Liverpool, therefore we had to prepare an extremely robust case.

“You’re talking a documentation bundle of probably in excess of 400 or 500 pages with witness statements, evidence, analytics about player performance, the statement as to why we make a judgment as to what we believe the player is worth, compared to what Liverpool want to offer.”

Ings could be back in team training within the next fortnight.
