Barcelona director at Wembley to see Philippe Coutinho

Robert Fernández

Barcelona had representatives at Wembley yesterday casting their eye over Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho.

The 25-year-old remains a target for the La Liga giants who are hoping to conclude a deal for him as early as January.

Barca’s technical director Robert Fernández (above far right) was at the match to watch Coutinho and a number of Tottenham players who they may target next summer.

Liverpool supporters are being subjected to almost daily reports from the Spanish media with numerous claims being published in relation to Coutinho’s future. The Brazilian still has his heart set on a move to the Nou Camp, that we are sure, but trying to piece everything else together is proving a little difficult due to conflicting reports, numerous claims and denials (or lack of them).

The Catalan media have now published quotes of Jürgen Klopp apparently refusing to deny that there is an agreement in place between Liverpool and Coutinho’s representatives that would allow the player to leave next year for having agreed to stay at Anfield for a little longer.

“I have no idea [about any agreement],” Klopp is quoted as saying. “We’ll see. We don’t talk about things like this. Can you imagine what it would be like if I said ‘yes, we have an agreement to let him out’?

“Right now, the one hundred percent truth is that nobody thinks about this.

“We do not talk about it, why should we?”

If those quotes are even genuine, they will have been translated and possibly translated several times, so we would advise caution.

There are suggestions that Barcelona feel they can sign Coutinho for an initial fee of just over £70million with a further £27million in add-ons being bolted on to any deal.

Reports published last week claimed that key meetings will be held this week as part of Barcelona’s plans to land Coutinho.

Boring and frustrating we know but we’re only letting you know what the latest claims are.
