Yeah good luck to him but won't miss his attitude about wanting to leave at various points when a team based mentality was needed.

As the Prem records show he was a great keeper and was brilliant with his distribution setting us off on the attack so quickly.

Would have liked him to stay but £100k a week has to be continuously earned and I think we need to be more wary about how players are likely to perform as they get older and / or competition for places gets hotter.

I really hope we sign a proper keeper. We can't rely on just Migs and Jones.

Yup. Good luck Pepe, and hope you get shown more respect by their fans than some of ours have shown.

Yeah I agree, makes you wonder at times how much football they see and how much they know really

Good luck to him, was a fine keeper at the height of his powers.

I'm not sure if we're allowed to criticize any player without being called the firing squad eek

I agree that there is no need to disrespect Reina (although he appears to have been angling for a move for along time to whoever would take him...). That said, his record isn't that good 'overall'. People find it easy to forget his bad games and only focus on the good. That's fine for nostalgia, but it doesn't offer a good balance. At best, he was good for us for 50% of his time at the club. There was an awful lot of decline as the years went by, which is odd for a goalkeeper as they tend to peak later. To me, that puts a question mark under his loyalty and attitude.

Can anyone really argue that he was significantly better than Mignolet? it's too close to call. His departure was down to a couple of key factors...

1) he tried several times to leave (...arsenal...barcelona...) and that's never a positive
2) he'd been out of form for many years and was getting worse
3) he is on very high wages
4) he announced that Benitez was the best manager he'd ever worked for.....just months after Rodgers arrived!!!

Whether Benitez is better than Rodgers is irrelevant. Reina should have been a bit more respectful and kept quiet, especially as he'd cost us so many points in recent times due to his own unforced errors.

All in all, £5m+ per year for someone who wants to leave and probably isn't good enough to be a starter is ridiculous money. There is no way that the club can justify that kind of overhead for someone whose contribution would be negligible.

People will tell you that he can distribute the ball better than Migs but at the same time they forget that Reina won't save a shot that is two inches from his hand.

Very true. People will remember what they 'want' to remember....and whilst stats don't paint a complete picture, this link proves his sharp decline in many areas:

I refuse to believe that link because I've seen stats that he's had more clean sheets than any other keeper in the prem. but these stats forget to list the fact that at the time liverpol have one of the lost defensive managers of all time.

Like I said, the stats don't paint a 'complete' picture...but they do support the popular opinion that he's been on the slide for a long time and certainly not worthy of his wages or place in the first team.
