It's the same in football. I disagree with both you and Dunk, just because we arent spending undreds does not mean we cannot compete at the very highest level. You all say how Arsenal are gonna have loads of cash to spend now and ho wthey are looking great for the future..well, how did they get there? By spending billions? NO...same applies to Dortmund...What about Porto? Do they spend millions? Just look at the class players Porto pumps out every season...they buy relative unknowns and proceed to sell for tens of millions...Falcao 47 mil , Hulk 55 mil, Rodriguez 44 mil,Moutinho 25 mil, Perreira 11 mil, Guarin 11 mil...You do the math. Does it not make sense to you? As long as the money gets reinvested, or the majority does, then I have no problems buying unknowns.

The first and biggest problem is in this term "world class". World class does not mean famous or expensive...who is to say Aspas will not be world class for us, or Atsu, or whoever we may sign? Secondly, this assumption that we will be lost without Suarez is ridiculous. Yes he is a great player, but history shows us over and over again, that the impact of star players leaving is usually much smaller than expected. Every player can be replaced, including Luis Suarez.

I hope he stays, but if he goes, he will be replaced adequately.
I am much happier with FSG in charge than I would be if H and G were in charge, or the Venky's, or QPR's owners...

This whole "managing expectations" stuff is nonsense in my mind. No one can manage my expectations because I have a brain and the ability to think for myself. I do not swallow all the stuff the media spout out, not from the pro fsg media or the anti fsg media. I am capable of deducing myself, where i feel they are doing well and where they are doing poorly. So no one has managed my expectations, my ability for critical thinking is still present, and I suggest you dont let them manage your expectations either guys, think for yourselves, dont swallow all the printed garbage they feed us.

I feel we are in a good place at the moment, moving upwards...it will take ttime, but all good things do at the end of the day...

Glad you enjoyed the post...i dont know why, but since Chelsea and then city starting spending big, all of a sudden our fans believe thatits the only way forward..it isnt, far from it, It is not a sustainable approach. Mark my words, sooner rather than later, Abramovich will sell the hallowed Stamford bridge and build apartments there, luxury ones, and will pocket hundreds of millions of pounds profit and then he will decide to sell chelsea. His only REAL interest is in their ground and its prime location.

That approach is not sustainable, and never will be...the only real sustainable approach to success is that which Arsenal, Porto, Dortmund and the likes apply.

I just hope some of our own fans realise that it's worth working hard toreach success, rather than buying it.

There is no definitive answer to this problem. You need to mix it up in the transfer market. Keep buying players like aspas, coutinho, sturridge etc but if somebody already established (van persie, fellaini) become available then you have to consider them too.
Buying established players and taking chances on the younger up and comers is the only way. A mixture of these and blooding the youngsters has to be the best approach.
Which it has to be said looks to be exactly what BR is trying to do. We know he has a good eye (coutinho, sturridge though i'm unconvinced on borini and allen). He's willing to spend 20mil+ on one player (the armenian dude) and he's obviously willing to take a chance on the young fellas.
In my opinion we are very much going about things the correct way.

Hahaha grin I actually found that post really funny. Not because I didnt like or agree with it, quite the opposite actually. I had just about given up hope and thought that everyone on here was obsessed with FSG, season tickets or managing expectations. The only thing I would say is that although you can make a good portion of a team up with bargain players, sooner or later you have to splash out for "Gucci."

I would also agree that I don't think Suarez leaving will have as big an impact as people make out. I mean when Owen left we got Torres and when he subsequently left we got Suarez, we've replaced players like this before and we can do again. I would also agree that I hate people claiming that my expectations are being managed by FSG or Ian Ayre. I actually find comments like that quite insulting, I mean I don't know about some of you guys but I'm actually not a brain dead moron. I'm not gonna be told what to expect, I can determine that for myself and can do so using my own reasoning. Really hate it when people claim that I am being defeatist if I say that 5th place wouldn't be a bad finish next year. Some people would say to aim for first every year and that "we are Liverpool Football Club, we should be challenging for all trophys." That's not where Liverpool Football Club are at the moment and have never really been in my lifetime. However comments like that one restore my hope in our fans, so thank you Marko.

Pete: Berg, I'm just not cut out to be a good person.
