At the moment we have 3: Reina, Gerrard and Suarez. Lets use all our budget to get in another 1 or 2 then we have a chance.

Rather than increasing the amount of world class players we seem intent on reducing them. IF Reina and Suarez depart then we only have an ageing Gerrard who is of the required standard.

We are Liverpool FC NOT Reading, so lets start thinking like third most successful club in the history of world football should be thinking.

Fans getting excited about an unknown Armenian from the Ukraine is galling. Not that long ago we signed Torres who was the most sought after young player in Europe.

FSG and Brent have done a remarkable PR job at lowering expectations(while increasing ticket prices). They are destroying this great club and it is like watching a car crash in slow motion.

ok fair enough to have you opinion , but to blame FSG and rodgers for buying players like the lad from, shaktar is wrong its a pity , you have put the blame where it lies , firmly at the feet of moores, robinson, dalglish, comoli, benitez and H&G not FSG OR rodgers , who are picking up the reminds of what was the club of leagues and european cups now just a old famous once successful club living in the past and fleecing its fans to do it . .

I think this summers about increasing the squad depth. Once we have a good squad I think we'll buy those one or two players that can make the difference (next summer) I'm sure nobody wants BR to splash all his cash on one or two players now and leave our squad thin like last season. A few injury's and its season over.

i'm not too keen on splashing big money on flavour of the month players who may or may not work out same as a youngster. just because someone is performing at another club doesn't guarantee they'll do the same at ours, even if they are from the same league.

unless you have endless resources so that you can keep splashing the money every single season, i think it's too risky to do it. i'd rather wait a couple of years and have a team ready to challenge for the next 5-10 rather than a quick fix.

ok fine i agree for debating sake , but blaming the present manager for not winning leagues and european cup , is like if leeds fans blame neil warnock for the damage done by o leary and risdale at there club my point is its unfair ,years and years of wasteful and blinkered boards and managers are to blame without exception .

It's not much of a philosophy and full of grandstanding hyperbole...

Yes, we need and want 'world class' players but the simple fact is that the small store of these players all go to one of two places - the elite clubs (Barca, Real, Bayern, Milan, Man U, Chelsea, etc.) or the nouveu riche clubs (Man City, PSG, Marseille). Everyone else has to shop second tier and hope that even those players will come.

As has been pointed out - our world class spine of a few years ago failed to win the league - and we only were able to acquire those players because of regular CL football.

You can scoff at Mkyiteryan all you like but if we don't get him he is liable to go to an elite club - that's how highly he is rated. FSG know they can't sign Neymar, Ronaldo, Messi and the like... so they are trying to buy into the next generation of great players with punts like Luis Alberto and Aspas, following on from the successful grabs of Coutinho and Sturridge. While this isn't good enough for you and your wild-eyed fantasies it's actually the smartest approach that FSG can make. I'd rather see us chase top European/ South American prospects than flood the team full of overpriced tryers like Downing. Remember, Suarez was second tier when we signed him, as was Mascherano and Alonso. They went on to become world class players but we got them while they were on the rise.

Spot on. My thoughts exactly.

In our current situation where we don't even have europa league to offer, we simply don't have the lure to get the best players in. Like it or not, we're a 2nd rate team at the moment. There are many more attractive clubs in CL who can also afford to pay better wages.

I think BR is doing his best to buy well with the budget given. He's focusing on good technical players with mentalities of steel i.e aspas, toure, etc

If we can put together a squad that improves our depth and competition from last season, we'll have a good shout at challenging for top 5 this season. That's about as realistic as we can get.

I disagree.... there are so many fantastic players around available for much less than the big names. It's just like with everything in life, where you pay for the brand. Like Gucci shoes, made in a small plant in Serbia, yes, SERBIA...original Gucci shoes, which then get sold for several hundreds even thousands of euros. Those same shoes, of exact sam quality can be bought for less than half that price without the Gucci tag.

It's the same in football. I disagree with both you and Dunk, just because we arent spending undreds does not mean we cannot compete at the very highest level. You all say how Arsenal are gonna have loads of cash to spend now and ho wthey are looking great for the future..well, how did they get there? By spending billions? NO...same applies to Dortmund...What about Porto? Do they spend millions? Just look at the class players Porto pumps out every season...they buy relative unknowns and proceed to sell for tens of millions...Falcao 47 mil , Hulk 55 mil, Rodriguez 44 mil,Moutinho 25 mil, Perreira 11 mil, Guarin 11 mil...You do the math. Does it not make sense to you? As long as the money gets reinvested, or the majority does, then I have no problems buying unknowns.

The first and biggest problem is in this term "world class". World class does not mean famous or expensive...who is to say Aspas will not be world class for us, or Atsu, or whoever we may sign? Secondly, this assumption that we will be lost without Suarez is ridiculous. Yes he is a great player, but history shows us over and over again, that the impact of star players leaving is usually much smaller than expected. Every player can be replaced, including Luis Suarez.

I hope he stays, but if he goes, he will be replaced adequately.
I am much happier with FSG in charge than I would be if H and G were in charge, or the Venky's, or QPR's owners...

This whole "managing expectations" stuff is nonsense in my mind. No one can manage my expectations because I have a brain and the ability to think for myself. I do not swallow all the stuff the media spout out, not from the pro fsg media or the anti fsg media. I am capable of deducing myself, where i feel they are doing well and where they are doing poorly. So no one has managed my expectations, my ability for critical thinking is still present, and I suggest you dont let them manage your expectations either guys, think for yourselves, dont swallow all the printed garbage they feed us.

I feel we are in a good place at the moment, moving upwards...it will take ttime, but all good things do at the end of the day...
