Ireland has never been regarded as a footballing nation and there national team is as strong as a Jamaican bobsleigh team or an African ice Hockey team, Ireland is more famed for Gaelic football or girly hockey Hurling than football am afraid, just that people find it hard to take the Irish football national team serious.
ireland are weaker nation in soccer. we have a small population. in some parts of the country, rugby is dominant same with gaelic football and "girly" hurling as captainsouness likes to put it (though i suspect the poster has never swung a hurl in anger)
having said that it's nice to be so sh1t at our fourth choice sport and that we still competed with england tonight. but we're not really a soccer nation in the same vein as the world giants like brazil, argentina, spain, germany and italy. like england we trail behind that level of power.
