Liverpool FC Transfer News: Philippe Coutinho – LATEST

Philippe Coutinho has suggested that he will still be a Liverpool player next season following months of speculation that he was hoping to secure a dream transfer to Barcelona.

As soon as the Reds secured a Top 4 position yesterday the Brazilian told ‘ESPN Brasil’ that by staying at Anfield he would be appreciated more.

“Stay here and they will end up building a statue in your honour,” said Coutinho. “Go somewhere else, to Barcelona, to Bayern Munich, to Real Madrid, and you will be just another player. Here you can be something more.

“I have a long contract with Liverpool. Speculation is for journalists only.”

He added: “We started the season very well, I started well. But then in the middle, the performance regressed.

“Then we bounced back, I finished the season at a high level.

“The whole team is playing well, today was a very important victory, next season it’s the Champions League.”

With the Reds having secured a Top 4 place, it is believed that certain clauses in his contract would make it more difficult for him to leave and his transfer fee would certainly now be heftier. Barcelona had expressed an interest in him but they have made it known that they are not willing to break the bank to land him.
