Liverpool Transfer Rumours

The reversal of the furlough decision by Liverpool owners came as a surprise to no one, it was the initial decision that surprised many people. It was of course, a very negative surprise – Duncan Oldham covered in his podcast from the 7th of April. That showed us that – Liverpool legends and commentators are not hesitant to criticise the owners and the management when they do something wrong, but also that other clubs aren’t held up to the same standard.

Let’s leave that aside for now and touch another issue – transfers and players’ salaries. There’s increased pressure on players to give up on their salaries, at least in part, for the period when there’s no football action. Footballers aren’t just professionals who play football for money, they have a great influence on young people, and they are seen as role-models, so they need to play a role within their respective communities, as well as on the football field.

In the meantime, footballers are struggling to fill in their time in the absence of football. That is becoming more of a challenge for everyone. Some use the opportunity to read a book, something that all of us should be doing more, others finally have the chance to binge watch all their favourite series. Playing games online is also an option, regardless whether you are fan of first person shooters, strategies, or games like Book of Dead.

Every Liverpool fan, in fact, every football fan in general would prefer reading news and rumours regarding transfers, or at least gossip about players and their WAGs, not letters from club owners and the FA, but it is what it is and we will have to accept the fact that there will be no football action, nor transfers for at least several more weeks.

Boubakary Soumare, 21

Liverpool have been linked with Timo Werner, but the Reds have also been linked heavily with a couple of other players. Namely, it has been reported that the club has taken an interest in Boubakary Soumare, a 21-year-old midfielder who currently plays for French team Lille. A few other teams are reportedly also interested in the player, including Liverpool’s arch-rivals Man United, as well as other Premier league teams – namely, Chelsea and Newcastle, but also Real Madrid.

A report in the Spanish press claims that Klopp is a big fan of the youngster and his versatility and omnipresence has been listed as his key qualities. We know that when the German is interested in a player and eager to bring him to Anfield, he usually succeeds, especially since Liverpool is both the current European and World club champion but has also practically won the Premier League this year.

However, the competition is fierce, and it has been reported that Florentino Perez has also laid eyes on the player and we know how persistent Real Madrid can be when it comes to transfers. Hopefully the youngster will recognise the opportunity and choose Liverpool over the other clubs that are looking to acquire him.

Diego Carlos, 27

Diego Carlos, a 27-year-old centre-back who plays for Sevilla has also been linked with Liverpool. The player would be a very useful addition considering all the injury issues in the past. Even though there are three potential partners for Van Dijk, namely, Matip, Gomez and Lovren, Klopp is obviously looking to provide more rotation, not to mention that Lovren is probably on his way out.

Carlos at one point stated that he would only leave Sevilla for one of the top teams in the world, so that criterion is met. However, it should be noted that the three biggest clubs in Spain already have their eyes on him. Carlos’s talent and performances haven’t been unnoticed by Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, so securing his signature will be no easy task.
