Liverpool in three-way battle for Thiago Silva

Liverpool have been linked with a sensational swoop for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Thiago Silva, with a deal in the January transfer window or next summer being mooted as increasing possibilities.

The 32-year-old has been an integral part of the Parisiens’ success over the last four years since moving from AC Milan for £37.4 million in 2012, with PSG establishing complete dominance in Ligue 1 and gradually becoming strong contenders in the Champions League. They are favourites with Betway and more at to prevail in France once again, despite strong starts from Nice and Monaco who may finally provide some competition for the league title, but Unai Emery’s side could be about to lose their talismanic captain if reports are to be believed.

Capped 59 times for Brazil, injury has prevented Thiago Silva from playing a part in Brazil’s recent revival under new manager Tite, with the Selecao winning four consecutive South American World Cup Qualifying matches to put themselves in pole position to compete at Russia 2018. Also, he was not selected as one of the over-age players in Brazil’s Under 23 squad that claimed gold at the Rio Olympics this summer, despite stating that he would have liked to have played for his country.

Despite his advancing years, Thiago Silva remains highly regarded as one of the best centre- backs in world football. However, according to TalkSport, his agent has revealed that his client may soon be on the move from Paris Saint-Germain, with the Premier League a distinct possibility for a player that has just over 18 months left on his current contract. The PSG hierarchy could be willing to listen to offers instead of letting a player of his quality leave for nothing – something which has alerted the attention of Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Manchester United who could make a move as early as January.

Signing a world-class defender would not only appease the fans who want to see the very best players come to Anfield, but it would also give Jurgen Klopp a commanding centre-back who could make a big difference towards a potential title challenge. Liverpool would certainly be worth an outside bet with Betway in the current Premier League betting market, as the odds would certainly decrease if Thiago Silva joined the club during the January transfer market. It would be a major statement of intent that would go some way towards making Liverpool difficult to break down at the back and provide the foundations for the team’s attacking flair, which has been a joy to watch this season, to become more prominent.

It remains to be seen whether the links with Thiago Silva are fact or fiction, but we would be more than delighted to see a defender of his calibre walk through the doors at Anfield and make his presence known in the Premier League in Liverpool colours.
