Liverpool want to sign Alisson next summer

Who is Alisson?

Alisson Ramses Becker, better known as Alisson, currently plays as a goalkeeper for Italian outfit AS Roma. He signed for Roma in July 2016 from Brazilian team Internacional for €8million and his contract runs until July 2021. Born in Brazil on the 2nd of October 1992 (age 25), Alisson is right-footed and is approximately 1.91 metres tall. He has received a lot of attention from numerous clubs across Europe for his performances in goal, with Liverpool amongst the interested suitors.

How much would Liverpool pay for Alisson?

It has been reported that Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is a huge admirer of Alisson and that he would be willing to pay a significant transfer fee to make it happen. It has even been suggested that the Reds could break the world record transfer fee paid for a goalkeeper. Manchester City paid Benfica £34.7 million for Ederson last year, who coincidently was Alisson’s teammate at Internacional, which was a world record fee. The previous record was held by Gianluigi Buffon following his £33million transfer to Juventus from Parma in 2001.

Former AS Roma’s former goalkeeping coach Robert Negrisolo has compared Alisson to Lionel Messi in terms of goalkeeping. After being close to leaving Serie A last summer, Alisson got his chance when Wojciech Szczesny left AS Roma and joined Juventus, right when the football World Cup was knocking at the door.

Alisson commented on this turn of events saying: “This is the most important year of my career. I didn’t want to leave, but I would have had to think of myself and my targets. Now I know that everything depends on me and my performances. Nobody in Brazil, in a World Cup year, has a guaranteed place.”

The effect of Alisson moving from AS Roma to Liverpool could result in a confidence boost for the whole team and solve an ongoing problem at Anfield. Simon Mignolet will be shown the door as soon as a buyer is found and although Loris Karius has upped his game following a less than impressive start to his Anfield career, his place is far from guaranteed. Jürgen Klopp has struggled to find a solid goalkeeper and Alisson would be some coup if it could be pulled off. At the same time, having Alisson in the team, if he maintains a consistently good performance would change the football odds today and strengthen Liverpool’s place amongst the football hierarchy.

Rumour has it that there is another possible option that Jürgen Klopp is considering. Liverpool have also linked to Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas who looks set to leave Madrid in the summer. Klopp has previously tried to bring Navas to Anfield so you can expect the Liverpool manager to monitor developments concerning him, especially as a move for Alisson could be very difficult to broker. Alisson is also wanted by Real Madrid which could prove a real problem for Klopp who won’t want to get involved in a bidding war. It has been six years since the Reds last won any silverware when they defeated Cardiff City on penalties to win the League Cup. That’s their only achievement for some time, a far cry from previous years and their fans are desperate for them to return to their glory days. The history of the club speaks for itself having won a huge amount of trophies including 3 UEFA Super Cups, 18 League Titles, 8 League Cups, 15 FA Community Shields, 7 FA Cups, 3 UEFA Cups and 5 European Cups.

With much criticism being directed at Liverpool’s defence, bringing Alisson into the team could be the move that helps the team move back into the winning zone. Klopp is a dynamic manager who has as much passion for the team as the fans and the general view is that if he makes a few key signings, such as a new goalkeeper, then Liverpool could very soon become a major threat and move back to the top where all the supporters and management team want them to be. Loris Karius has until the summer to prove himself and if he ups his game, there’s a possibility that Alisson may not be needed.
