The Rumour Mill: Mora, Ngumoha and Camara latest

The Rumour Mill

Matchday, with City at Anfield at 4.30pm, and the mill is turning slowly.

There’s been nothing of interest from the likes of David Ornstein and Paul Joyce overnight, so today we’re scraping the barrel of the internet to see what’s out there.

Gilberto Mora (Club Tijuana)

The talk: The Tijuana attacking midfielder turns 18 on Wednesday, and Mexico is going wild for him. David Faitelson of Mexican broadcaster TUDN claims Liverpool have made a record offer of more than $50m (about £37m). Now the Mexican paper El Porvenir says Arsenal have approached Tijuana as well.

Who said it first: The bid claim is Faitelson’s alone. TEAMtalk, a long-running transfer gossip site with a patchy record, picked up on talk of Liverpool contacting his representatives, as did other aggregators.

Anyone backing it up? Only partly. Several Mexican outlets now talk of a race between Liverpool and Arsenal. Fabrizio Romano, aka Rent-a-Tweet, has said clubs in England and Spain are monitoring him, without naming a Liverpool bid. Football Insider, a clickbait site, has also talked up Liverpool’s interest, which counts for nothing. No UK reporter has confirmed a bid, and his agent has declined to comment. The reported release-clause figures, which vary from about €24m to $28m, sit well below that “record” offer, which doesn’t add up. The interest is just about warm. The bid, for now, is cold. Although the reports are speculative, we believe Liverpool do have an interest in this player.

Verdict: WARM

Rio Ngumoha (new contract)

The talk: Liverpool want to tie the 18-year-old winger down to a new long-term deal, well beyond his current contract, which runs to 2028.

Who said it first: TEAMtalk, which claimed in early September that terms had been agreed in principle and an announcement would follow within weeks.

Anyone backing it up? Not really. The Liverpool Echo, once a great paper, now part of Reach plc’s clickbait machine, says Liverpool are keen to reward his progress, with Arsenal tracking him and Bayern Munich interested in the summer. Football Insider says Liverpool are “confident”. Of course the club want to keep him, but more than five weeks after that “agreed” claim there’s still no announcement, and the reporting behind an imminent deal is thin. KopTalk sources believe Arsenal have a genuine interest in the player, but we are hopeful that the Reds will secure his signature.

Verdict: COLD

Lamine Camara (Monaco)

The talk: Liverpool are said to have a clearer run at the 22-year-old Senegal midfielder after his deadline-day move to Chelsea collapsed. The claim is that Monaco now want about €70m, up from the €55m they had agreed with Chelsea, and that Chelsea are unlikely to come back at that price.

Who said it first: Ben Jacobs, a self-styled transfer insider whose claims often come to nothing. He says Liverpool were calling Camara’s camp on deadline day, while making it clear they weren’t moving in the summer.

Anyone backing it up? No. Plenty of outlets have repeated the €70m figure, but every version traces back to Jacobs, and nobody has reported a Liverpool bid. Even Jacobs ties the interest to summer 2027, if Alexis Mac Allister leaves, and says Manu Kone and Alex Scott are on the list too.

Verdict: COLD

William Gomes (Porto)

The talk: Porto’s 20-year-old Brazilian winger is said to be very highly rated on Liverpool’s list, as a possible 2027 option on the right.

Who said it first: The Portuguese paper A Bola, picked up in England by TEAMtalk.

Anyone backing it up? Nobody credible. He has reportedly just signed a new Porto contract with a €100m (about £85m) release clause, which is quite a hurdle for a story resting on one newspaper.

Verdict: COLD

Jules Kounde (Barcelona)

The talk: Reports in Spain say Barcelona would listen to offers of more than £60m (about €70m) for the 27-year-old France defender, who can play at right-back or centre-back, and that Liverpool are watching closely.

Who said it first: The pro-Barcelona paper Sport, which put Liverpool among five Premier League clubs interested.

Anyone backing it up? No. The latest is the Spanish report rehashed by English websites, and Kounde is said to want to win his place back at Barcelona rather than leave.

Verdict: COLD

Josh King (Fulham)

The talk: Liverpool are said to be among a crowd of clubs keeping tabs on Fulham’s England Under-21 attacking midfielder, and could weigh up a move in January.

Who said it first: A Swiss football website, which valued him at £51m. Football Insider has now joined in.

Anyone backing it up? No credible outlet has, and the Swiss report also throws in Arsenal, Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.

Verdict: COLD

Nicolas Scotti (Defensor Sporting)

The talk: Liverpool are said to be monitoring the 16-year-old Uruguayan winger and to be ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also watching. His release clause is reported to be about $8m (£6m).

Who said it first: TEAMtalk, and nobody else.

Anyone backing it up? No, this one is single-source. Every other version traces back to TEAMtalk, and he can’t be registered in England until he turns 18 in November 2027. Cold at best.

Verdict: COLD

Michael Olise (Bayern Munich)

The talk: The former Crystal Palace winger keeps being linked with Liverpool, and TEAMtalk now claims he would only consider Real Madrid or Barcelona if he left Bayern.

Who said it first: The link began as a former Manchester United chief scout’s opinion that Liverpool would be “all over” him if he became available, which is a pundit’s view rather than a report of interest.

Anyone backing it up? No. Nobody has reported a genuine Liverpool move, and the only fresh word is TEAMtalk saying he wouldn’t come anyway.

Verdict: NONSENSE
