Roy Hodgson targets former Liverpool goalkeeper

Diego Cavalieri

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson wants to sign former Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri.

The 35-year-old Brazilian is a free agent after cancelling his contract with Fluminense and Hodgson is holding talks to sign him as he only has one senior goalkeeper fit and available for selection.

Cavalieri was signed by Liverpool in 2008 for a fee believed to be around £3million to be Pepe Reina’s understudy.

He never made a league appearance but did manage a few appearances in the cups before being sold to Italian outfit Cesena for an undisclosed fee in 2010.

Palace are currently 15th, just one point off the bottom three.
