Real Madrid’s Florentino Pérez keen on Sadio Mané

There are fresh reports today that Real Madrid could make a move for Liverpool ace Sadio Mané in the summer. It is claimed that club president Florentino Pérez has identified Mané as a possible target this summer if moves for primary targets Erling Braut Haaland and Kylian Mbappé fail to materialise.

If the Spanish giants are successful with landing Haaland and/or Mbappé, there are claims that Pérez will look at recruiting Mané in 2023. The link comes only days after Pérez is said to have declared his intentions to turn to Mo Salah, if a proposed summer move for Mbappé collapses.

While transfer speculation concerning the likes of of Mané and Salah isn’t new, we believe that there is a need to be cautious and not to immediately dismiss every claim that is currently being made. Obviously, much depends on the source of such claims, but we’re of the opinion that both Mané and Salah would jump at the chance of making a move to Real Madrid if such an opportunity presented itself at some point in the future.

Salah’s future remains unclear as he’s yet to sign a new contract with the Reds, but Mané’s future isn’t as cut and dried either. Although the focus is on Salah, we’re actually more concerned about Mané, because out of the two, he appears to be the one less committed to the idea of staying at Anfield. Salah seems to have a genuine desire to extend with Liverpool. While he may have desires to represent Egypt at Real Madrid given chance, it’s his agent that seems to want to prise him away from Anfield. When it comes to Mané, the suggestions are that following his success with Senegal at AFCON, where he was also crowned the player of the tournament, it sounds like he wants to better himself even further despite having won silverware at Liverpool.

As things stand, there are absolutely no suggestions that these players will definitely be on their way in the summer. Liverpool don’t bend over for anyone these days, but if the club’s summer plans don’t go as they intend in terms of recruitment, they may consider upping their offers to their star players in the hope that they can retain them. There is certainly a lot of uncertainty surrounding a number of key players and that’s not going to be helpful over the coming months for Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp.

We get the impression that both Salah and Mané will drag their heels for as long as possible just in case Real Madrid do step up for one of them. However, if Liverpool think there’s a real possibility of that happening, they will take note and re-evaluate their position. However, it should be pointed out that the word from the corridors of Anfield suggests that the club isn’t afraid of cashing in on Salah in the summer if he fails to agree a new contract. There has been no chatter from within with regards Mané as yet.

Quite a few things could depend on what happens at The Bernabéu (and possibly The Nou Camp) so we would strongly advise that you keep an eye on the usual suspects. If Mbappé makes the switch to Madrid in the summer, there will, of course, be suggestions that PSG may come knocking for Salah. Whether or not that would interest him, we’re just not sure.
