No Virgil van Dijk punishment for Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk

The Premier League has found insufficient evidence to start disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool following an alleged illegal approach for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

Southampton did not withdraw their complaint despite accepting a public apology from Liverpool for “any misunderstanding” in relation to the Reds’ interest in the highly-rated centre-back although the Saints have not pushed for the Premier League to dig deeper.

Liverpool claim to have ended their interest in Van Dijk but we believe we have only ended our interest in his transfer valuation. If that can be lowered, we expect Liverpool to step back up to the table again but it could drag on for a lot longer yet.

The first real sign that we’re giving up will be if you see us linked to another centre-back by credible sources. An initial link may be leverage being applied on Southampton so don’t start flapping straight away.
