Mario Götze a good fit for Liverpool says former team-mate

Mario Götze should consider trying to relaunch his career in England – and possibly with Liverpool – says his former club and international team-mate Kevin Grosskreutz.

Götze has seen his career stall since rejoining Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2016. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder has made just two appearances so far this season and was left out of the squad to face Hoffenheim on Saturday after a poor show against Club Brugge in the Europa League.

Linked multiple times with Liverpool in the past, many in Germany feel that Götze needs to be reunited with his former manager at Anfield to find himself again.

Grosskreutz commented: “I’m very sorry for Mario Gotze at the moment, because stuff is written about him – and only him – every day.

“In Brugge, for example, the whole team didn’t play well.

“Maybe it would be good for him to go abroad in the winter to find a bit more peace and bring his career back on track.

“Klopp knows him quite well, he would be a good fit for Liverpool.”

Earlier this year, Götze spoke of how much respect he had for the Reds’ boss when he said: “He taught me everything about professional football. At that time, I was just 17 and coming up from the youth team.

“He introduced me to everything. He let me play.”
