Loris Karius under fire following Spartak clash

Loris Karius has come under fire after Liverpool’s Champions League draw in Moscow last night.

The 24-year-old German goalkeeper was unable to keep out Fernando’s first-half free-kick leaving fans and pundits saying he should have been able to do more.

Speaking after last night’s 1-1- draw, BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand commented: “You’ve got to finish teams off at this level because if you don’t, they get an opportunity to score – especially if your keeper isn’t producing at the other end.

“I know he (Klopp) is trying to protect his goalkeeper a little bit but I don’t think the ‘keeper is someone you can protect in this instance.

“If I’m in that team, I’m turning around and I’m fuming. I’m asking what’s going on!

“You’d expect your goalkeeper to save the ball there. It’s not even right in the corner, it almost goes in the middle of the goal once it hits the net and that’s where my frustration would lie.”

 

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard added: “From 25 yards it’s far too central, he doesn’t get his feet moving quick enough.

“You can accept anything that goes into that corner and you can say ’that’s top quality’ but it’s not close enough to the corner.

“If you’re a defender in the wall and you turn around you’d be disappointed he’s not saved that.”
