Liverpool want to sign Brazilian defender

Liverpool are interested in signing Brazilian defender Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Junior.

The 20-year-old right-back, who is on the books of Brazilian outfit Clube Atlético Mineiro, has been scouted by a number of European clubs this season and Liverpool are amongst the first to register a formal interest in the player.

Barcelona have been heavily linked with the defender who is known simply as Emerson and they, of course, are favourites to secure his signature.

Atlético signed him last April from Associação Atlética Ponte Preta and although they would prefer to hold on to him, the reality is they may have to consider allowing him to leave in the summer if he continues to maintain his current form.

Capped 4 times by Brazil Under 20s, Emerson is under contract until 2022. His agent claims that 14 clubs have approached him regarding the player’s availability. He has also commented that no European giant would be able to simply click their fingers to secure a deal because of the amount of interest in his client.
