Claims originating from North London state that Liverpool are considering making a move for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
The 29-year-old centre-back, who can also play as a right-back, is yet to agree terms on a new contract with Spurs who may opt to cash in on him sooner rather than later due to the fact that a £25million release clause could be activated in the summer of 2019. Rather than lose him for £25million next year, Spurs could try and generate bidding war for him once the current campaign ends. Reports claim that they would want around £50million.

It is widely mooted that Alderweireld is attracting interest from Arsenal, Barcelona, Manchester United, PSG and Real Madrid. But it is Liverpool’s name who has now been thrown into the hat with London-based journalists suggesting that Liverpool could offer him another option after making an informal enquiry.
Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp is hoping to recruit at least one centre-back in the summer with Lazio’s Stefan de Vrij a primary target. Dejan Lovren will be allowed to leave Anfield if a suitable bid comes in for him but only if a suitable replacement has been found.
The suggestions that Klopp is considering making a move for Alderweireld are rather speculative. He would command a substantial wage and having just turned 29 he may be considered an unattractive option to sell to the board.
