Liverpool keen to reward defender with new contract

Joe Gomez

Liverpool want to reward Joe Gomez with a new contract.

Talks are ongoing between Anfield chiefs and the Liverpool defender to bring his wages in to line with other first-team regulars. It is claimed that his current deal is worth £30,000-a-week and you would expect that to at least double.

The 21-year-old only signed a new deal in January last year and there’s still 4-years remaining on it. However, having made significant progress with both club and country, Liverpool want to ensure that Gomez remains happy and settled on Merseyside.

Gomez played the full 90 minutes of England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain last night and has been a solid presence in Jürgen Klopp’s defence in the Premier League so far this season.

Skipper Jordan Henderson recently heaped praise on his team-mate for the way his career is progressing.

“He’s very mature for his age,” said Henderson. “His feet are firmly on the ground and he can be as good as he wants to be.

“He’s still young. He’s still improving, still learning and there’s no better place to do that than at Liverpool with the players he’s got around him and the manager.”
