Liverpool FC Transfer News: Virgil van Dijk – LATEST

Virgil van Dijk

Southampton have slapped a £70million valuation on Virgil van Dijk in the hope of blocking his desired transfer to Anfield.

The Saints are adamant that they do not need to cash in and sell the highly-rated defender this summer although the player has indicated that he wants to leave.

Liverpool claimed earlier in the week that they had ended their interest in the Dutchman but we actually believe the interest remained and it was more about letting Southampton know that they wouldn’t meet their inflated valuation.

Southampton appear to have accepted Liverpool’s apology following allegations the Reds made an ‘illegal approach’ for the 25-year-old but they are yet to withdraw their informal complaint to the Premier League and that matter looks set to drag on into next week.

Liverpool may have turn to the likes of Burnley’s Michael Keane, Hull City’s Harry Maguire or Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly if they truly accept that Southampton will not negotiate that fee down once this blows over.

The key to a deal still happening now rests with the player and what pressure he can apply on his club to enable him to secure his dream move to Liverpool.

Manchester City have emerged as favourites to land Van Dijk while Arsenal and Chelsea continue to be linked.
