Liverpool Football Club distanced themselves yesterday from claims that they had reached an agreement to sign Iker Casillas on a free transfer.
Reports originating from Spain claimed that the Reds had offered the 36-year-old goalkeeper a contract after his deal with Porto expired and that he had already inked a pre-contractual agreement that would see him make the switch to Anfield on July 1st.

The local media on Merseyside reported that Liverpool were “baffled” by these suggestions and that boss Jürgen Klopp was definitely not in the market for a goalkeeper.
KOPTALK sources claim that Klopp is interested in Sunderland ‘keeper Jordan Pickford but that he is resigned to accepting that he will have to persevere with Simon Mignolet next season with transfer funds being earmarked for other positions in the side that need to take priority. The manager will also have Loris Karius and Danny Ward at his disposal. Ádám Bogdán is still on Liverpool’s books while veteran Alex Manninger is retiring in the summer.
Current No.1, Mignolet was previously unsettled and his agent had been putting the feelers out about a possible move elsewhere. However having won his place back in the side, the Belgian is no longer looking to exit the club. There has been no interest registered in Karius and selling him so soon looks unlikely, although that could change if a firm offer came in. Ward is attracting interest following his successful loan with Huddersfield Town but Klopp wants to retain him next season. The suggestions are that Klopp will not entertain loans for Karius or Ward over the summer.
The boss would have to move Mignolet, Karius or Ward out permanently if he was to make a move for Pickford and he’d probably also have to raise extra funds from sales before he could table a formal offer for the Sunderland ace. Klopp’s coaching and scouting staff also rate Pickford but it would appear that nothing is going to happen on this front, although you can expect the Reds to be monitoring Pickford’s situation over the summer to see if anyone steps in and if so, at what price.
Casillas has been offered to Liverpool, hence these reports surfacing, but KOPTALK sources claim that Liverpool indicated to the ‘keeper’s representative that they had enough strength in depth at the moment.
