Liverpool FC step up interest in Gelson Martins

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp is willing to shell out £39million on Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins, claim reports originating from Portugal today.

The 22-year-old, who is comfortable on either wing and who can also play as a right full-back, was monitored by Liverpool scouts last season and now looks to be under consideration by the Reds.

It’s worth noting that these reports have emerged after negotiations with AS Roma for Mohamed Salah stalled. Our interest in Salah is not dead but the Martins chatter certainly appears to be linked to the Roma stand-off after Liverpool officials told the Italians they would start looking at other options.

Capped 5 times by Portugal, Martins made 44 appearances across all competitions last term scoring 7 and providing 14 assists.
