Barcelona have opened contract talks with former Liverpool ace Luis Suarez with club president Jose Luis Bartomeu stating that he will not be returning to the Premier League following speculation that Manchester United were interested in signing him.

Luis Suarez“We read, we listen, we see this news, but of course, our interest in this particular case is that Luis Suarez is happy at Barcelona. For me, he is probably the best striker in Europe and we want him to be with us. Right now, we are trying to extend his contract with Barcelona and he is one of our big future efforts because he is still young, he has a vision, a lot of ambition. He is happy at Barcelona and together with Lionel Messi and Neymar, they are really very dangerous.”

Raheem Sterling says he made a decision to leave Anfield if the club failed to win trophies, years before he made the switch to Manchester City. The 21-year-old winger quit Liverpool for City last year in a controversial fashion with the Reds netting a £49million transfer fee.

Raheem Sterling“I was 15 years old and we were already talking about what we’d like to do after Liverpool if things didn’t turn out like we wanted. I just said well this is a massive club and a massive opportunity for me now but I remember saying to him (agent) by the time I’m 22, if I haven’t won anything or playing in the biggest competitions then I need to assess my options … it was about playing in the Champions League and against the biggest teams like Barcelona; for me that’s a massive game to be involved in. I’ve always loved Liverpool, it was a great team which helped my development. I never had any big issues there at all; with the fans or anything like that. It didn’t go the way I would have liked but it happened and you have to move on.”
