Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai missed Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester City at Anfield after suffering a hamstring problem while on international duty.
Head coach Andoni Iraola confirmed the injury ahead of kick-off, revealing that the Hungary international had attempted to train through the discomfort but was ultimately not fit enough to feature.
“Another one coming from the international games,” Iraola told Sky Sports.
“He came with an overload, he felt a tight hamstring. He’s tried somehow, kind of pushing through training, but he was not feeling 100 per cent and we will have to wait for Dom.”
Szoboszlai’s absence adds to Liverpool’s injury concerns following the international break, with the midfielder becoming the latest player to return to Merseyside carrying a fitness problem.
Iraola offered no indication of how long the 25-year-old could be sidelined, leaving his availability for Liverpool’s next fixture uncertain.
The club will now have to assess the midfielder’s recovery before determining when he can return to action.
