Liverpool remain interested in Monaco ace Thomas Lemar and are close to an agreement in principle for the 22-year-old, claim reports originating from France.
Despite well-placed journo James Pearce of The Liverpool Echo publishing an exclusive last month that stated the Reds were ‘no longer pursuing’ the Frenchman, Le10 Sport claim that Liverpool have made significant progress over the last few weeks ahead of a possible summer transfer and go as far as to state that an agreement in principle isn’t far away.
Liverpool’s Sporting Director Michael Edwards held talks with Monaco back in August but was unable to strike a deal due to an unrealistic transfer valuation. Nothing materialised during the January window either and a week after it slammed shut, The Liverpool Echo claimed Liverpool were now ‘focusing their attention elsewhere’.

The last round of speculation suggested that Monaco were looking for a fee of around £90million which is obviously what saw Liverpool back away. However, it is now mooted that Monaco could be willing to drop the asking price, especially as the player only has 2 years remaining on his existing deal.
KopTalk sources have always maintained that personal terms had been agreed and that it was just a case of both clubs reaching an agreement with regards the fee and structure of the deal. Could that happen in the summer? Possibly.
Some fans will argue that The Liverpool Echo stated that Philippe Coutinho wouldn’t be sold to Barcelona at any price and that Liverpool had ended their interest in Virgil van Dijk before he eventually became a Liverpool player. A little unfair maybe as the boys there can only pass on what’s being claimed and fed to them at the time. They certainly wouldn’t deliberately mislead the fan base but can we say the same about Le10 Sport?
Our opinion is that you “never say never” in football. Money talks, right? Lemar is a player Klopp really likes and if the Reds like his transfer valuation, then it could of course be back on.
It’s only March but when claims like this crop up, it’s a reminder that the madness of the summer transfer window is only a couple of months away!
