Liverpool can have Jasper Cillessen

Jasper Cillessen

Barcelona will not stand in the way of Jasper Cillessen moving to Liverpool providing the Reds meet the player’s valuation.

Liverpool have been linked with Cillessen and numerous other goalkeepers for some time and although the likes of Roma’s Alisson and Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak could prove tricky deals to pull off, Barca won’t stand in the way of the 29-year-old’s exit if the money is right.

The Dutchman, who joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2016 as a replacement for Claudio Bravo but has largely been cover for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, is under contract until 2021 but if Liverpool or anyone else offers a fee close to £50million, it sounds like Barca will do business.

Despite their apparent willingness to sell, it is still claimed that Barca would prefer to hold on to their back-up goalkeeper. But with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea apparently considering bids for him, it would appear that his head has been turned slightly and that if any concrete bids go in, that he would accept a new challenge, especially if it came from the Premier League.

Manchester City stormed away with the league last season and Chelsea are desperate to regain their prominence after only coming 5th last time out. Chelsea could be about to set to part ways with Thibaut Courtois who still has not signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge and they need to strengthen ahead of their next Premier League campaign if they’re to be considered a threat to City again. Liverpool are in the market for at least one goalkeeper with Simon Mignolet due to exit the club over the summer. There are also, of course, question marks over the long-term future of Loris Karius following his Champions League final display where he made a couple of blunders, although there have been attempts to lessen the blame by suggesting that he was actually suffering from concussion at the time following an elbow from Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos.

We believe that Stoke City’s Jack Butland has long been on Klopp’s radar while Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope has also been looked at, as too has AC Milan’s talented youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma. Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno has also been mooted but it would appear he favours a move to Serie A outfit Napoli. Leno is expected to replace former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina who is moving to AC Milan. Despite Napoli looking as favourites to land Leno, it’s worth noting that sources close to Arsenal claim that they are also trying to recruit him.

Initially we thought that Reds’ boss Klopp would just bring someone in to replace Mignolet and to rival Karius but following the Champions League final and the way in which it was thrown away, we then thought the boss might go all-out for a new number 1.

Those in the media who are briefed ‘off-the-record’ by Anfield officials, when getting certain news out benefits the club, are now playing down Liverpool’s interest in Alisson and Oblak citing that both players are far too expensive. We’re not convinced that our interest in those two has ended just yet.

Alisson wants to see his future resolved before Brazil kick off their campaign on Sunday 17th June. Speaking about his current situation, he said: “I think everything will be resolved before the start of the World Cup, that’s what I want.”

Oblak hasn’t had too much to say recently but a few weeks back he commented: “I don’t know what will happen, it doesn’t depend on me.”

Cillesen remains an option but something just doesn’t sound right about the link and we just can’t see Liverpool investing £50million in him.
