Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp would like to see the 24-year-old recruited but much will depend on the transfer fee demanded by his club who are reluctant to do business.
Everton, Manchester United and Tottenham have also been linked but Liverpool registered their interest early on and the feedback so far has been positive.
However, there are suggestions that the player will wait to see if Liverpool will secure Champions League football. It has also been mooted that he would be up for a return to Old Trafford having started out as a youngster there.
Burnley reportedly value the player at around the £25million mark.
