Lazar Markovic’s long-term future remains unclear after he rejected the opportunity to sign for Anderlecht.
Liverpool had accepted they would have to take a huge hit by accepting a £2.9million paltry offer from the Belgian side and instead negotiated a 50% sell-on clause into the deal which could have seen the Reds pocketed a few bob in the future. However, it wasn’t to be as the 24-year-old rejected the move after failing to agree personal terms.

Anderlecht, who had beaten off competition from Greek club PAOK earlier in the day, pulled negotiations at the 11th hour meaning that the Serbian winger will now report back to Melwood next week.
As he’s in the final year of his contract, it looks like Markovic, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Anderlecht, will leave as a free agent next year.
Liverpool paid Benfica £20million for him in 2014 but he failed to make a positive impact and soon found himself loaned out to the likes of Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon and Hull City.
