KARIUS LOAN DEAL COULD BE CANCELLED

Loris Karius

Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius may have his loan deal cancelled in January, claim reports originating from Turkey today.

Despite keeping 3 clean sheets during his last 4 games for Besiktas, the 26-year-old’s future remains in doubt after Ahmet Nur Cebi was appointed the club’s new president. Fikret Orman recently stepped down due to poor results this season and Cebi was elected the 34th president of Besiktas just over a week ago.

Reports claim that the new president wants a complete overhaul of the squad next year starting in January. It is claimed that he wants to replace Karius with Fulham goalkeeper Fabri who is currently on loan at Mallorca. Fabri was previously with Besiktas between 2016-2018.

Karius is in the second season of his two-year loan deal with Besiktas having joined them in August 2018. Liverpool originally signed him back in 2016 for £4.75million form German side Mainz but he failed to make a positive impact. He was quickly moved out following that disastrous Champions League final against Real Madrid in 2018.

He still finds himself continually criticised by the Turkish media despite eventually having settled down at Besiktas after a disappointing first year in Turkey. Turkish pundit Ali Ece has been an ongoing critic of the German goalkeeper and he recently pulled him up for poor distribution.

“You can’t teach these kinds of skills at that age. He isn’t Fabri. You can’t expect him to distribute the ball better than him,” said Ece, who has been unimpressed with Karius due to a number of high profile errors that he’s made during his time at the Turkish club.

Speaking recently, Karius confessed that his future remained unclear. He said: “I have a loan until the end of the season and then I see, back to Liverpool or somewhere else in England, or somewhere in Germany, you never know.”

He added: “I still speak to the goalkeeping coach [at Liverpool] and some other players. They have a good chance again this year so see where it takes them.

“But I hope they win the league this year. The season is so long but it’s always good to have a good start and get some points ahead so it looks good, I can’t see them losing a game.”

With no future at Liverpool on the table, his agent will no doubt already be touting him to other clubs regardless of whether he sees out the loan with Besiktas or not.
