Jürgen Klopp named German Manager of the Year

Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has been named German Manager of the Year by Kicker magazine for the 2018-19 season.

It is the 3rd time that Klopp has won the award which is voted for by The German Sports Journalist Association. He previously won the award after winning the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and 2012. Only Felix Magath had previously won the award three times.

Jurgen KloppKlopp received 183 of the 537 votes cast with Fortuna Dusseldorf boss Friedhelm Funkel receiving 139 votes and Eintracht Frankfurt boss Adi Hütter receiving 56 votes.

On receiving the news, Klopp said: “I thank you very much for this great award.

“Of course, I know who I owe this to: my team and my coaching team, only in the collective can we achieve such successes as we have achieved.

“I am also happy for Friedhelm Funkel and Adi Hütter, whose great work has been recognised by sports journalists.”

Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus, who was again linked with Liverpool last week, was voted German Footballer of the Year for the 2018-19 campaign. He beat off competition from Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.
