Joël Matip

Joël Matip has been cleared by FIFA to play for Liverpool again.

The Liverpool defender had been prevented from turning out for the Reds due to a dispute with Cameroon after failing to report for international duty at the African Cup of Nations.

However, FIFA have today ruled that he can play for the Reds which means he is now eligible for tomorrow’s Premier League fixture with Swansea City at Anfield.

Matip is at the team’s hotel this evening but clearance wasn’t received until after today’s session leaving boss Jürgen Klopp with a decision to make regarding his selection. A place on the bench seems most likely.

Liverpool opted not to select Matip for games against Manchester United and Plymouth due to the threat of hefty fines and possible expulsion from the FA Cup.

Fortunately, the matter is now resolved.
