Joe Gomez Injury News

Joe Gomez

Joe Gomez might be looking at another long spell out after tweaking his hamstring again. He’d just returned to action in Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle, but lasted only about 10 minutes before the same hamstring flared up.

Bad luck for the 27-year-old, especially since he’d been on the sidelines for six weeks with a similar issue already.

The medical team is still running tests to figure out how severe the damage is—and whether surgery’s needed—so it’s a waiting game for now. In the meantime, manager Arne Slot only has three fit senior centre-backs (Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, and Jarrel Quansah) to work with. Wataru Endo can fill in if things get really desperate, but it’s hardly ideal, especially with Sunday’s home match against Wolves kicking off a crammed run of five league games in 15 days.

To make matters worse, Curtis Jones will sit out Sunday’s game after picking up a second yellow card in the post-match chaos that followed Wednesday’s 2-2 draw at Goodison Park. Tyler Morton is also unavailable—he just had shoulder surgery that’ll keep him out for about three months, which pretty much rules him out for the rest of the season.

On the bright side, Liverpool are still seven points clear at the top of the Premier League after that draw against Everton. Fourteen games to go, and hopefully the Reds can keep the momentum going while Gomez and Morton work their way back to fitness. Fingers crossed we’ll see them back in action soon.
