Jamie Carragher has been suspended from his duties with Sky Sports until the end of the season.

The broadcaster has opted to remove the former Liverpool defender from his role as a pundit after he was filmed spitting at a father and his 14-year-old daughter following the 2-1 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford at the weekend.

Carragher immediately apologised for his behaviour and the family involved have pleaded with Sky not to sack him.

Sky say they will make a decision in the summer as to whether or not Carragher can return for next season’s coverage.

A statement from Sky said: “Following an internal review, Sky has suspended Jamie Carragher for the remainder of the football season.

“Jamie has taken full responsibility for what has happened and we will ensure he gets the help he needs to guarantee something like this never happens again.

“Before the start of the next season, we will sit down with Jamie to discuss whether he is ready to return to his role.”

Although some United fans have called for Carragher to be axed, many have condemned the actions of the father who taunted Carragher while endangering his daughter’s safety whilst driving and recording from his mobile phone.
