James Milner in the dark over Liverpool future

James Milner

James Milner has admitted that he’s in the dark over his Liverpool future. The veteran Liverpool midfielder has a year remaining on his contract but the Reds don’t appear in a rush to offer him an extension.

Milner, who will turn 34 in January, would like to extend his stay further but despite holding talks with Liverpool officials, there has been no further developments.

“As it stands, last year we spoke to the club and asked them if they wanted to do something and they said not at that time,” said Milner.

“We haven’t heard anything since, so that’s where we are at. All I can do is concentrate on my football and do what I can.

But in terms of where I am with my contract, that’s what has happened up until now and I haven’t heard anything from the club.”

He added: Everyone pipes on about my age and stuff I understand you are going to get that.

“There are three things to it: availability, fitness and performance level. Hopefully I am delivering all three.

“I am just going to keep concentrating on my football, keep contributing to Liverpool and be the best player I can be for as long as possible.”

Asked if he thought he could play on for a few more years, he added: “I’d like to think so.”

Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp recently commented: “Millie looks again in the pre-season like in his early 20s; but he isn’t, he knows that, and we try to respect that.”

Due to Milner’s age, it goes without saying that Liverpool are just being sensible with regards the situation.
