Former Everton director of football Steve Walsh has revealed that the Blues turned down the opportunity to sign Liverpool ace Andy Robertson.
Both Robertson and his then Hull City team-mate Harry Maguire could have been signed for £20million but the Everton board rejected the suggestion.
Robertson has since become one of the best left-backs in the world after moving to Liverpool for an initial £8million while Maguire moved to Leicester City for £12million and eventually made the step down to Manchester United in an £80million deal last summer.
Walsh, a former scout for clubs including Chelsea, Newcastle United and Leicester City, said: “While I was at Everton, I offered them Andrew Robertson and Harry Maguire deals, when they were at Hull, and it was worth £20 million for the pair. Everton wouldn’t take them.
“I had a deal done for Jonny Evans too before he came to Leicester, but again they wouldn’t take him.”
Walsh also revealed that Everton also turned down a chance to sign Norwegian striker Erling Haaland, a player that Liverpool are currently tracking.
He added: “Erling Haaland, the striker with Salzburg, I had him and his dad at the club with a deal done for €4 million. The club wouldn’t back me.”
