Juventus have confirmed that they had a transfer bid rejected for Liverpool midfielder Emre Can during the summer.
The Italian giants have chased the 23-year-old Germany international for some time and were expected to return again for him during the January transfer window, especially with the player having failed to agree a new contract with the Reds. However, Juve CEO Beppe Marotta suggests that may not happen.

“We don’t think we are going to make a big signing in January,” Beppe said.
“Our team is absolutely competitive and we have some very interesting midfielders like [Rodrigo] Bentancur who has already showed his qualities.
“We have faith in this team and in these lads. As for Emre Can I don’t think Liverpool will sell him in January.
“We made an offer for him in the summer but the Reds didn’t sell him so I don’t think they’ll change their mind in the middle of the season.”
Liverpool have so far refused to insert a release clause in to Can’s new contract offer and a stand-off subsequently remains.
