Emre Can grateful for Klopp faith during contract stand-off

Jürgen Klopp & Emre Can

Former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can says he’s grateful that Reds’ boss Jürgen Klopp continued to play him during his long-running contract stand-off with the club.

The 24-year-old left Anfield on a free transfer for Italian giants Juventus in June after failing to agree a new deal and despite Liverpool knowing that they were set to miss out on millions of pounds due to receiving no transfer fee for him, the Germany international was still selected by the manager.

Commenting on the situation, Can said: “Not a lot of managers would let you play so many times when you are in the final year of your contract.

“My relationship with Klopp was always good. He wished me all the best when I told him I was leaving.

“But I always did my best. I always wanted to help the team.

“That is what he saw. That is why he kept faith with me.”
