What a shock! LFC's new AMERICAN owners ignoring SOS. Never saw that coming...

You couldn't make it up. In a statement released a couple of days ago, SOS expressed their disappointment that LFC’s new American owners had not been in contact to ‘engage’ with them. They’re kidding, right?!

There have been several amusing/ironic things about the Liverpool sale so far (Fan hypocrisy over Christian Purslow; LFC fan websites getting it so wrong for so long about the debt/the motives of LFC hierarchy), but this has to be the funniest. Part of SOS’s statement read:

It is disappointing that none of the potential purchase groups are yet to engage with Spirit of Shankly and we would expect that to happen now before any sale is concluded so the issues most closely concerning supporters can be discussed.

You have to admire the brazen chutzpah. For months and months, SOS conducted an antagonistic, xenophobic hate campaign against Hicks and Gillett, spewing the mantra ‘YANKS OUT’ at every opportunity, and whipping some sections of the Liverpool fanbase into an irrational, baying mob.

After this site vehemently attacked SOS’s stance (and ONLY this site), they were shamed into changing their ‘Yanks Out’ tagline. However, SOS members then burned the American flag outside Anfield (!), a disgraceful incident that brought shame on the club, embarrassed the fanbase, and alienated US Liverpool fans everywhere.

After all that xenophobic discontent, SOS actually has the gall to ‘expect’ a new AMERICAN owner to ‘engage’ with them?!

Why on earth would John W. Henry want to have anything to do with a baying rabble of thugs who took great delight in regularly and repeatedly insulting his country?

It’s hilarious to me that SOS feels slighted over the snub.

WAKE UP!

You reap what you sow. This is precisely what happens when you cut off your own nose to spite your face. And if New England Sports Ventures have any sense at all, they will stay well clear of SOS.

SOS should look on the bright side though – when they inevitably turn against the new Owners for failing to cut the Anfield grass to within a millimeter of UEFA specifications, (or some other spurious reason), they can just recycle all their ‘Yanks Out’ banners, which will save them a shedload of money.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

And the silver lining here is that when Hicks and Gillett are gone, an emasculated SOS might wither and die, with their place being taken by fan Union/Organisation of which LFC fans *worldwide* can be proud.

i dont usually take any notice to these website or their articles but i read this one and have to i completely agree. SOS stand for nothing good they are a bunch of delusional, egotistical little people who think they are the voice of the fans

good points made - also, SOS are in danger of becoming the English 'Ultras'. If you see the italian Ultra's they are essentially yobs who use violence to influence the club to give into their needs. apparently they manage to wrangle free tickets and stuff from their threats.

They can do whatever they want but I disagree with the use of Shankly's name. It's a disgrace to associate the great man with any forms of violence.

We should do things the LFC way - with dignity and class. I hope they remember the name of SOS before doing anything.

So they are now demanding the new owner Henry, which they burnt his own country flag to meet with them? Wtf, who the hell do they thing they are seriously. SOS get a life, they are no more then a a group of t.h.u.g.s ruining the reputation of liverpool and its supporters. They are acting like in control of liverpool and want everything that they say. If you want respect and recognition ffs do it the right way by shutting up and waiting whats going to happen. In SOS i see a gang, not a bunch of liverpool supporters.

A little harsh me thinks. I would say over a year ago I was of the same opinion certainly after the christmas bash video had them singing 'munich' songs. I found it distateful. That seems to have been a turning point for the group and they have done a decent job since then keeping a peaceful campaign although one with high visibility. Also linking with share Liverpool has been a good idea and they are starting to gain some credibility. we as fans do need a voice whether it's SOS or something else. For now I will support them but their reaction in peacetime 'post new ownership' will be more of a judge of how succesful they will/have become.

Just what right do they think they have to the sale process anyway? I accept that they feel fan ownership has positives, but they're not behaving like people owners would want to share anything with, including the time of day. They need to start behaving like they can be part of the solution; right now they're just part of the problem. I'm happy that they have helped against Hicks and co, but they need to remember a few things about decency and humility; values upheld by the man whose name they take in vain.

SOS have only wanted to get their names in the papers all along. Bunch of wasters. You can enjoy their stalinst mentality by going on RAWK and saying something either about SOS or about Rafa. They'll pounce on you and call you every name under the sun for your break from the forum party line, so to speak. Nothing but a bunch of thugs with a 'what we say goes' mindset. Everyone should just ignore them like our new owner is doing. They are only relevant if people treat them so.
