I think they got the name wrong - he´s not called Kharafi, it should be Khadaffi. And he would be a real bomber for us!!! wink

Chinese to put bid on the table for takeover of Liverpool

Tony Barrett

The Chinese consortium leading the race to buy Liverpool is expected to step up its interest this week by making a firm offer for the club.

Kenny Huang, a Hong Kong-based businessman, has delivered an outline takeover proposal to Martin Broughton, the Liverpool chairman, and having gone public with its plans, the consortium is understood to be putting the finishing touches to a formal offer that it will put to Barclays Capital (Barcap), which is overseeing the sale.

Broughton has made it clear to all parties that they must provide proof of having the necessary cash to complete a deal.

If successful, the Chinese bid would lead Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr, the Liverpool co-owners, to be replaced by a consortium backed by a Far Eastern sovereign wealth fund, believed to be an offshoot of China Investment Company.

It’s exactly a week since news of Red Ken’s proposed takeover was revealed, and in that week he’s gone from being hailed as our saviour to derided as a publicity-crazy psycho. But after the drama of the bid revelation, there was always going to be a period of comparative silence, the more so because a) it’s the weekend and b) Martin Broughton has, correctly, insisted on a bit of decorum from any party wanting their bid to be taken seriously. Still, it’s worth reminding everyone that Ken Huang has not made a public statement and neither has CIC denied their involvement in the LFC takeover bid. The initial splurge of info was necessary, on balance, because it ensured a level of transparency leading into this bid process. But that doesn’t make Huang’s party a gang fame-hungry narcissists. Their bid is real. Their backing is real. Their intent - to be LFC’s new owners as soon as viably possible - is real.

I’ve said previously and I’ll say again - there’s a lot more that could be revealed about this bid, the consortium and the ailing health of Hicks and Gillette’s financial empires. But as has also been politely pointed out, the wisdom of radio silence is not in the limiting of information to your troops, rather making sure the enemy don’t know where you’ll hit them next. We all know these boards are scanned far and wide, so let’s not give anything away this late in the day.

Broughton has requested that all interested parties show the mettle of their bid and their worth by Wednesday. Things will begin to heat up again over the next day or two and I’m confident that Red Ken’s will end up being the only serious bid on the table.

I hope that you are right codyscot. Reading the article in News Of The World today sounds that the extent of the debt is even greater due to the 2.5m a week pik interest.
The sooner they sell up to Huang the better.

i seriously don't like this kirdi bid. It doesn't give any figures or anything. Never even mentions who is involved or what money is available on new players.

what i don't like is the obvious connections between him and the gillett family. that's not good in my opinion.

on the other hand i know nothing about the chines other than what we've heard in the press.

i guess we have to wait and see what happens and lets hope it turns out for the best

A step towards the 'correct' direction for a potential new owner to be taking. I'm cautiously impressed.

None of the bids excite me at the minute. I don't like these fellas heading up consortiums. How the hell will it work? I mean, our current owners can't agree on anything so how will a whole consortium. I would be much happier if it was just the one wealthy investor.

Still, if whoever comes in builds the stadium, clears the debts and makes some money available for transfers then we'll see how it goes.
