Hodgson wants Hangeland at Anfield
I thought there was some agreement in place that he couldn't sign any Fulham players???? Guess the £15m might soften the blow with Al Fayed.....
Roy Hodgson is thought to be interested in bringing Brede Hangeland to Anfield as he looks to shore up the Liverpool defence before the start of next season.
Hangeland was a key player for Hodgson last season and one of the main reasons Fulham had such a fantastic run in the Europa League. The new Liverpool manager is a big admirer of the 6 foot 4 inch central defender, who he signed from Danish side Copenhagen in January 2008.
If Hangeland does reunite with his former manager at Anfield, then it will be the third time he has played under Hodgson. Hangeland played for the Norwegian club Viking, which was managed by Hodgson between May 2004 and August 2005.
Hodgson is thought to be keen to shore up the Liverpool defence before the start of the season, and Hangeland could be the perfect player to do just that. The main stumbling blocks for this deal, however, could be his age and his price tag.
Hangeland is now 29-years-old, and Fulham would be unlikely to let him go for anything less than £15m. Whether Hodgson will be able to persuade the Liverpool board to part with that sort of cash, for a player who is one year off 30, is another matter.
