I think that's why Hodgson is waiting to sell Lucas.
If Defour joins Liverpool, there is no further need of Lucas' "services".

Defour is way better then Lucas. Defour does play where needed. He's a central midfielder - doesn't matter where though, attacking, defensive.

But I do feel this means that Mascherano is out of here.
But then again, that's prob one transfer we can't do anything about.
