of course locals can be glory hunters. prime example are stoke. the season they got promoted they started off with gates of around 7000. once a promotion challenge was looking likely the crowds gradually went up to about 14000. clinching promotion they were getting around 18000. suddenly they find themselves in the prem and they get 27500 sell outs every home game and their favourite song is " we support our local team"
if liverpool had the history of say tranmere we'd be getting 10,000 tops.and half of you die hard local reds would be evertonians!
your biggest mistake is classing oot fans and day trippers in the same category. i'm an oot fan and dont go to the club shop, dont buy the rubbish lfc lager in the ground and dont eve buy a [oops] program.
day trippers are a different kettle of fish.thwey are the ones who come once in a life time or once a season. go on the club tour, visit the shop, take their silly photos during the game and struggle to sing along with any song.
but some locals love the day trippers. the touts who sell them fake tickets for 5 times face value, who mind their cars for £5 a throw, who sell them second rate merchadise and the pubs that now charge matchday prices that are higher than normal prices when a game isnt on.
so in a way these daytrippers are contributing to the economy of liverpool!
